The Immigrant Architects Coalition (IAC) is pleased to announce the inaugural IAC Distinguished Contribution Award, honoring immigrant architects and designers whose work, leadership, and dedication have made a meaningful and lasting impact on the architecture and design profession, regardless of their career stage. This achievement-based award celebrates individuals who exemplify excellence, innovation, and service while advancing both the profession and the immigrant community throughout their careers.
This award recognizes immigrant professionals who have:

Demonstrated exceptional achievement in architecture or design

Advanced the profession through leadership, mentorship, or advocacy
-
Contributed positively to communities and the built environment
-
Inspired others through professional excellence and integrity
-
Made meaningful contributions to and demonstrated support for the immigrant community
This award recognizes immigrant professionals who have created sustained impact over time at
different stages of their careers:

Category A - Non-licensed Professionals / Designers
Individuals who have graduated with an architectural degree in architecture but are not
currently licensed.

Category B - Licensed Architects who are licensed less than 10 years in the U.S.
Architects holding an active U.S. architectural license in any state or jurisdiction.

Category C - Tenured Professionals who are licensed more than 10 years anywhere in the U.S.

Why Submit
While this award does not include a cash prize, the value of recognition extends far beyond monetary reward. Submitting an entry provides:
● Professional Recognition – Acknowledgment of your contributions and achievements
● Visibility & Distinction – Exposure through publications, events, and professional networks
● Career Advancement – Enhanced credibility and professional profile
● Community Impact – Opportunity to highlight work that supports immigrant professionals
● Legacy Building – Documentation and celebration of your influence and service
● Media Spotlight - Winner(s) will be featured on the IAC website and across IAC social
media platforms.
● Speaking Opportunities - Winner(s) will be invited to participate as guest speakers on the IAC Podcast.
This award is designed to honor leadership, dedication, and meaningful contributions that shape both the profession and the broader community.
Applicants or nominees must:

Immigrant architects or designers who moved to the U.S. after the age of 18 and are currently working in the U.S.
-
Either a licensed architect in the U.S. or individuals with an architectural degree in architecture.

Currently working in the architecture profession and/or related field.
-
Have demonstrated professional contributions to the profession or community.

In good professional standing. Self-nominations and third-party nominations are welcome.

Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on:

Professional Excellence – Quality and impact of work
-
Contribution to the Profession – Leadership, mentorship, research, or advocacy
-
Community Impact – Social, cultural, or environmental contributions
-
Contribution to the Immigrant Community – Demonstrated support, mentorship, advocacy, or initiatives benefiting immigrant professionals or communities
-
Legacy & Influence – Lasting effects or impact on peers, the profession, or the broader public.
Entries must include:

Completed Entry Form

Statement of Contribution (500–1,000 words)

The statement must clearly describe how the applicant has contributed to the immigrant community, including mentorship, advocacy, outreach, education, leadership, or other meaningful efforts.

Curriculum Vitae / Resume (maximum 3 pages)

Portfolio or Supporting Materials (maximum 10 pages)

Submit Exhibits 1-5 exhibits showcases the applicant’s significant work.

○ Total pages of Exhibits shall not exceed 10 pages.

Letters of Support (maximum 2 pages)

Provide a maximum of (2) letters of support, each limited to one page, no smaller than font size 10

Deadline
The application deadline for the AWARDS is August 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm EST. Later or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Jury Process
A multidisciplinary jury of respected professionals will review submissions. Entries will be evaluated based on merit, impact, and alignment with the award’s mission and values.
